I've done a variety of site specific video & film projections for bands and clubs over about 15 years. I make sure to have a unique programmed show that is never repeated. I also avoid using common stock video loops and generate my own art or ask the bands to contribute.
A still from the Videoing performance during East Austin Studio Tour 2014 at Big Medium.
Video: a quick video of sound reactive graphics for the band Videoing.
I was asked to contribute some new video art pieces for an installation at an empty downtown pool in Austin, TX. It was used to promote awareness of the new Waller Creek development in downtown austin.
I decided to work with stills of people resembling a creek flow in this video piece.
In 2001 I created a video-still based installation for Young Latinos Artists show at Mexi-arte. I chose to document east Austin which was at the time a slow paced community with not much appeal for nightlife or anything too “hip”. The area had urban myths of being a scary part of town to live in likely due to the economic level and ethnic make up of the community at the time. E.A.S.T. 2016 created a new opportunity to resurface some of the footage for a new video sculpture. The original video is from a visual drive by of east Austin in 2001. I decided to take my video camera to capture everyday life in neighborhoods, around landmarks and cruising through local businesses. Austin looked very different back then but some of it currently remains the same. This project provides a view into some of the past of east Austin.
This project created by Jacob Villanueva and Jeff Clarke is an installation that uses maps from the City of Austin translated into a vivid display of LEDs. The installation is in the shape of the Boggy Creek Watershed and is intended to engage and bring awareness to the impact of our neighborhoods on local ecosystems.
A still from the first installation in Nov 2013 during East Austin Studio Tour.
A short video of one the visual sequences of The Below Project.
A group of fellow artists decided to createa renegade pop up art show in a bare space in Marfa, TX. I created an installation that was based on snooping through other people's medicine cabinets. "What's in there?" it's someone else doing the same thing!
New Day was an interactive audio installation that I was commissioned for a celebration of a grand opening of Lamar Union (a new mixed used retail and residential project in south Austin).
I was commissioned to do an installation for the after party for Art Night Austin. I had about a two week turn around but ended creating some lightweight tetrahedrons that could easily hand on a wall. I video mapped the projections then projected a sound sensitive shape generator that matched the beat of the music.
A wide view of the sound reactive wall at Vuka.
I had limited space to work. This is a part of the visual setup.
Test patterns before graphics are added.
One of the sound reactive graphic patterns that originated from the center of each triangle.
Another pattern. Unfortunatley the video documenation was very poor.
Open Doors: Expansion was a group show at The Dallas COntemporary. Fascinated with never before been in a real basement, I decided to conceptualize a project that represented the viewpoint of the basement itself.
